Do people really spy on other users?
Yes. This is far more common then you would think. There are numerous spy software products on the market that allow individuals to log everything you do. Most commonly this type of spy software is deployed by a spouse or an employer. This has often led to divorce, employees being fired, and other nasty business. Doesn't my virus scanner pick up this type of software?
No. It really doesn't. Virus scanners typically pick up trojans or viruses but fail to detect common key loggers or stealth programs.

Will X-Cleaner replace my anti-virus software?
No. X-Cleaner is an added precaution. We recommend your run your normal anti-virus software as always.

But I need a spyware to monitor my kids/employees!
No, you don't. If you are concerned that your kids spend too much time on the internet or playing games (a legitimate concern), then there is a solution that is much simpler and invades neither privacy nor trust: block the access to the applications by a timetable. This way, the rules are clear for everybody, and you do not need to spend each evening sifting through spyware logs. While it is your computer it is your children’s private life. The same thing is valid for employer-employee relationships. An investment in trust is far better then dubious spying activity which can backfire on the best of relationships.

Is this program compatible with my Virus Scanner?
Is this program compatible with my Firewall?
Yes, X-Cleaner is compatible and will supplement those products. A virus scanner will protect you from virus-infected files. A firewall will protect you from hacking attempts comming from the outside (mostly the internet). But neither does anything against someone trying to breach your privacy or steal your secrets by examining the traces left by programs on your hard disk or by installing keyboard logging software. Only X-Cleaner will protect you from this kind of "attacks" by deleting surfing traces and detecting and removing spy programs. We always recommend that you have a good virus and firewall package installed.

How can the spy program scanning and cleaning be so fast?
Unlike viruses, who can operate from anywhere on your system, spyware needs to hook into your Windows to do its dirty deeds. X-Cleaner knows the "hooks" spyware uses and where to look for them. It does not scan your entire hard disk (which can take hours) but zeroes in on the locations used by the spyware. This way, detection can happen very quickly (not more than a few seconds). For the general cleaning options, we use low-level calls to windows to clear and cache the required information in memory. These techniques combined with optimized 32-bit code make us one of the fastest programs in our category.

Why do I need to reboot after each cleaning?
The fact is that you are only advised to reboot after a cleaning session. This is a requirement to be 100% sure that all the data is removed from memory, because some programs might be able to maintain information in memory, even if it has been removed from disk. There is also the possibility if you do not reboot immediately, that between your cleaning session and the next time you reboot, someone accesses your system and launches some special tool (we know of none) that will view cached information in memory.
In short: if you are sure nobody else will access your machine in the current session and don't mind the possibility that a program might display "old" data, you do not need to reboot.

It says "This program has expired".
Since our programs need frequent updating to keep up with the spyware developments, we include a warning system that notifies you when you have an old version. If needed, please download a new version.
However, most cases where this happens are caused by an incorrect date setting in Windows! So if you receive the error, verify your system clock settings, by double-clicking on the clock on your taskbar, in the far right bottom corner of your screen. Incorrect settings will cause trouble in all sorts of applications.

I already have OptOut/Adaware/... , do I need X-Cleaner too?
Yes!
When OptOut or similar talk about "Spyware", what they actually mean is "AdWare", like the banner ad system from Aureate / Radiate that puts advertisments into software applications.
While there are some known privacy concerns with Adware, these are nothing compared with real Spyware. Consider the difference between being protected against adware (what Optout does) which sends out demographics and banner clickthru ratios and being protected against spyware (what X-Cleaner does) that transmits every keystroke, logs every password you type... and you will see the difference in importance and "steath level".
X-Cleaner does also include functionality to remove certain types of AdWare.

What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small piece of data stored on your hard drive. People who access your cookies can gather data about where you go. You will actually be able to see what a cookie looks like too!

Will it protect me from "Web Bugs"?
"Web bugs" are just regular images of a very small size that are included in regular web pages. The nasty thing about them is that they track you thru the use of cookies. X-Cleaner will clean all cookies, regardless regardless where they come from.
This system leaves the "Web Bugs" in place, but renders them powerless in tracking you.

Why must I re-login to my (banking, email, ... ) site after cleaning?
X-Cleaner will clear all cookies (if this option is selected).
In short, these cookies can be used to track your browsing habits by storing personal identification on your PC that is sent when you visit a site. Some sites (banking,...) use the same system to store login information. When their cookie is cleared, you will need to log in again thru their "front page".
In short: since cookies can be used for good or bad, and we have absolutely no way of knowing what the remote site will do with it, we clear them all. The only disadvantage for this is that for some legitimate sites you will need to re-login.
We believe that having login information for a financial site stored in a cookie on your hard disk a really bad idea, security wise. If someone were to steal your Pc (or access it otherwise) they would also have access to your banking account!

Will it clean Netscape browser tracks?
Yes.

Will your software detect every known spy program?
It is impossible to guarantee that our software will detect all known spy software. However, it will detect the most common types and we continually update our modules to assist in rapid detection. As fast as they make it we update our product to defeat it.

How hard is it to install and run this software?
